VII. Campus Stakeholder Presentations
A. Faculty Senate
Dr. Helen Smith informed the Board that the Faculty Senate Executive Committee has been working with Deputy Provost Sipes to update the policies in the Faculty Handbook and to make the policies more accessible online. She further stated that the Academic Policies Committee is developing a continuation of instruction policy in the event that KSU needs to close temporarily due to Coronavirus, the Curriculum Committee has put forth numerous course and program changes, and the Chair of the Budget Committee will sit with the Provost when she reviews the Academic Affairs Budget.
Dr. Smith stated that Provost Schneller expressed to the Faculty Senate that she is working with Human Resources on a salary study and a merit award structure. In support of these efforts, the Faculty Senate passed Faculty Senate Resolution 19-20-02. This Resolution addresses the KSU Faculty Senate Survey Evaluation Report Submitted to President Brown in July 2018 which indicated that KSU salaries are not competitive with similar institutions, that there are inequities due to race and gender, and that cost of living adjustments need to be made. Faculty salary adjustments have been discussed but there has been no improvement. The Faculty Senate encourages that the time of faculty contract renewals for AY 20-21 be used to address the issues of merit pay, cost of living raises, and salary equity adjustments.
Chairperson Farris requested that the Board be granted time for discussion before the new budget is brought to the Board for approval and requested that a special called meeting be held so the Board has time to ask questions and provide feedback.
