ROADWAY RESURFACING
U.S. 17 from south of East 4th Avenue to West Palmetto Avenue
Volusia County
Financial Project Identification FPID) No.: 447084-1
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is resurfacing approximately 2.26 miles of U.S. 17 (State Road (S.R.)) 15) from south of East 4th Avenue to West Palmetto Avenue in Pierson. The project will extend the service life of the roadway and upgrade pedestrian curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
WHATTO EXPECT
During construction, motorists can expect intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. the following morning. The posted speed limit along the corridor will remain unchanged during construction. Pedestrians should also expect intermittent sidewalk closures during construction, and accessible pedestrian detours will be provided as needed.
Electronic message boards and other signage will direct traffic through the work zone. Levels of work activity and noise will vary during different construction phases. Motorists should anticipate areas of uneven pavement within the project limits, a common condition during construction when the contractor applies multiple asphalt layers in phases. Many of these roadway conditions are short-term and will gradually improve as the project progresses.
