WHEREAS, Mr. Gerald Cunningham graduated from Kentucky State University in 1977 and was an outstanding member of the Men's Basketball Team from 1973–1977; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham scored at total of 2,635 points and caught a total of 1,304 rebounds during his tenure at KSU; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham shot 62.8% from the field and averaged 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game during his tenure at KSU; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham was named NAIA First-Team All-American in 1975 and 1976; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham was drafted by the New Jersey Nets as the first pick of the fifth round of the 1977 NBA Draft; and

WHEREAS, the Kentucky State University Board of Regents acknowledges that Mr. Cunningham exemplified dedication and excellence throughout his tenure as a student-athlete at KSU.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kentucky State University Board of Regents wishes to recognize and commend Mr. Cunningham for his outstanding contributions to Kentucky State University and its basketball program and extend to him this statement of appreciation.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this statement of appreciation be appropriately inscribed and conveyed to Mr. Cunningham, with a copy to be included in the official Board Book of the February 16, 2024, meeting of the Kentucky State University Board of Regents.
