Section 5: Family dependents
To determine your HEAR income limit, HEAR needs to know the number of dependent children in your family in 2026. Do not count yourself in this section. Pick the number from a drop-down menu on the form.
What is a ‘dependent’?
A dependent includes:
a sibling [brother or sister] in your household under the age of 16 years on 1 October 2026; or
a brother or sister over the age of 16 years on 1 October 2026 who is:
attending secondary school education, or
attending a full-time course in further education and training (FET) or higher education, or
medically certified as permanently unfit for work.
a parent or guardian attending a full-time course in further education and training (FET) or higher education
You will also have to type in each dependent's name, date of birth, and the school or college they are attending (if any).
