The City provides scholarships to eligible participants ages 18 and under who live in Pasadena or attend a Pasadena Unified School District school. Scholarships are approved based on available funding, the total gross family income, number of members in the household, and guidelines established by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for Housing and other programs for individuals and families of very- low to extremely- low income. Parks and recreation areas are a vital part of a thriving community. They serve to bring the community together, enhance health and wellness, and provide opportunities for people of all ages to come together and grow. The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department is dedicated to offering welcoming programs and spaces that keep our community active and connected.

We are proud to offer inclusive recreation classes for all ages, summer day camps for youth, aquatics programming, and numerous events through our Parks After Dark program, which will run July 9 - August 8. Additionally, we look forward to the return of the Levitt Concert Series to Memorial Park along with a variety of special events that honor cultural heritage, champion diversity, and embrace our resilient and united community.

All are invited and encouraged to participate in our programming this spring and summer. From art and music to fitness and team sports, we offer recreation that meets all needs and abilities. Our robust aquatics program offers year- round swim lessons, water exercise, youth swim team, water polo, and more. PRCS facilities and Pasadena Senior Center invite older adults to various exercise, educational, and social activities. Scholarships to participate in some programs are available for those who are eligible.

Calling all competitors! The City of Pasadena is excited to offer FREE swim and water polo teams at Kennedy Pool. Teams generally practice in the Spring: Tuesday thru Friday and Summer Monday thru Thursday. Competitions will be held on Saturdays. Must be able to swim 25 yards to participate. ## SWIM LEVEL PREREQUISITES & COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

## P&M - Parent & Me (6 months - 3 years old) PAADENA

This swim class is for parents and infants with a focus on water adjustment, safety skills, and practices. This class will equip parents with information on proper holds and safe submersion to help them become confident handling their infants in the water and help the infants adapt to the water. Swim diapers are required for all infants participating in the class. Please note: a parent (legal guardian) must be in the water at all times during class. This class will provide 30 minutes of lessons with the instructor and 15 minutes for guardian and child to explore skills in the water.

## Level TT - Tiny Tots (2-4 years old) PAADENA

This class is designed for children with little or no swimming experience and focuses on water adjustment while introducing basic swimming skills. Children who are not yet fully potty trained must wear swim diapers in the pool.

## Level 1

Introduction to water activities, good habits, and overall water safety. Blow bubbles, bobbing, float, glide and proper arm/ leg actions on front/back and underwater object retrieval.

## Level 2

Development of proper swimming techniques like front and back crawls, front/back floats and glides, recover to a vertical position after swimming, treading water, underwater breath holding and object retrieval, and water safety skills.

## Level 3

Guided practice of previously attained skills in deeper water: side breathing with the front crawl, treading water, flutter kick, scissor kick, dolphin kick, and breaststroke kick; elementary backstroke; headfirst entries into the water; non- swimming assists; and water safety skills.

## Level 4

Develop knowledge and techniques of all strokes and other aquatic skills including preparation for swim team. Open turns on front and back, treading water, refine front crawl and backstroke, and improve on breast stroke, butterfly and sidestroke, introduction to diving, feet first surface dives, survival swimming, and water safety skills including simple water saving assists.

## AGE LIMIT FOR RECREATION SWIM

For your safety, children ten (10) years and younger must be accompanied by an adult and be within arms distance in the pool, dressing room, and pool deck.

The Red Cross water proficiency test will be required for ALL participants entering deep water.

## SWIM ATTIRE

La Pintoresca Teen Education Center provides recreational programs for youth ages 12 to 17 in a safe and positive environment. The Pasadena Youth Ambassador Program began in 2001 to provide job experience to high school students through participation at special events held by both nonprofit and for- profit organizations in the City of Pasadena. The program provides youth with the opportunity to gain valuable skills by exposing them to various experiences such as being docents, attending conferences, planning events, and being a spokesperson for the program. In addition, Ambassadors are City employees and active members of their community.

The Pasadena Senior Center provides recreational, educational and wellness activities for seniors age 50 and older. ## BALLROOM LINE DANCING

Seniors love Ballroom Line Dancing because it's fun, easy to learn and they can dance to all the beautiful ballroom music without a partner. "Ballroom line dancing" is line dancing with a twist. Students will learn the basic steps of many ballroom dances (e.g., Foxtrot, Cha Cha, etc.) in a line dance format. At the end of each class, students should feel comfortable dancing through an entire song at dance parties and weddings.

The Villa Verde Rooftop Community Garden is hosted by the City of Pasadena's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and was created with the support of the City of Pasadena. The community garden aligns with the Department's mission to preserve and improve the physical, social, and economic health of Pasadena neighborhoods by delivering inclusive, innovative, and progressive recreational and community service programs. The garden is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization and a member of the Los Angeles Community Garden Council, which provides administrative support to a large network of community gardens in Los Angeles County.
