Furness Council CEO. Cllr W McEwan noted Barrow represents 25% of the total County area, yet our correspondence at times is ignored. It was agreed the mayor would compose a letter for Cllr W McEwan to submit to W&F Council on 30th July 2026.
Cllr H Edwards asked if meetings of the Town Council could be deferred when the date coincides with a meeting of W&F. The Town Clerk noted:
The schedule of meetings for the full ensuing year, for all committees and Council, is registered on the W&F room booking system and confirmed before 1st April in every financial year.
Room availability is very limited, and in cancelling a room one cannot guarantee when another date will be available.
To cancel a meeting would be detrimental to the business plan of the Council.
The Town Clerk noted the AGAR figures in respect of the External Audit are required to be approved by Full Council prior to submission by 30th June each year. The current schedule of Council meetings does not coincide with this requirement, and she therefore sought approval to either reschedule the meetings or to insert an extraordinary meeting into the current schedule of meetings for June 2027.
Proposed by Cllr J McEwan and seconded by Cllr C Thomson that an extraordinary meeting in June 2027 be approved. All agreed.
Tuesday 22nd September 2026 at 18.00pm in the Council Chamber, Barrow Town Hall, Duke Street, Barrow-in-Furness. LA14 2LD.
There being no further business the meeting closed at 19.05 pm.
