Is aspirin suitable for everyone?

No, you shouldn't take aspirin if you have:

  • any known allergy, intolerance or contraindication to aspirin or non-steroidals (NSAIDs)
  • active stomach or peptic ulcers
  • current kidney or liver dysfunction
  • recent history of heavy vaginal bleeding (e.g. within the past 1 week).

If you are unsure whether any of the above apply to you, discuss with your doctor or community midwife before taking.

Where can I get aspirin?

Aspirin is available over the counter at any pharmacy or supermarket. Alternatively your doctor can issue a prescription. The correct dose is 150mg at night between 12 and 36 weeks.
