The primary revenue-generating services for the City include water sales, sewer service charges, and solid waste fees. In 2024, the City engaged Wilden Financial Services to conduct a rate study and develop a proposed rate structure with the following goals:
Enable the utility to operate independently from the General Fund.
Ensure the utility remains financially stable and capable of funding both operations and capital needs.
Address anticipated cost increases for DWU purchases and other operating expenses.
Consultants, independent auditors, and city staff strongly recommended the adoption of the proposed rate increases to ensure long-term sustainability. On July 22, 2024, during the regular City Council meeting, councilmembers and the Mayor approved water and wastewater rate increases, effective October 1 in the years 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027.
