A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

The 2005–2006 academic year will mark my secondyear as President of Kentucky State University. It will be the first academic year where I have had an opportunity to apply my vision to the ov erall goals and objectives of the institution. I, along with the faculty and staff, will continue the University's march toward excellence and its transformation to meet the demands of today's students by delivering instruction in both traditional and non-traditional ways.

Kentucky State University is proud of its heritage as a historically black college. This designation was the basis for the institution’s “Land Grant” designation—that only the University of Kentucky and KSU have in the state—and subsequently its designation as a small liberal arts university. Those three “jewels” working in concert with each other, truly make KSU a strong, relevant, and viable institution. From these “jewels,” quality programs have been established that offer students the ability to learn in the smallest student-to-instructor ratio in the Commonwealth wealth.

As you review the contents of this catalogue, you will see a ho st of pro grams that will help you meet your educational needs at the associate, bachelor's, or master's levels. We will be upcoming the degree offerings in the Masters of Business Administration. This new offering adds to the institution's other outstanding programs that cover a broad academic spectrum—from Nursing to Education, including with Aquaculture—our Program of Distinction. You will find a student body, faculty, and staff that are very ethnically diverse and that come from varying backgrounds.

Quickly you will see that the vibrancy of Kentucky State University is evidenced in its students, faculty, and staff. KSU is committed to producing good students who will become leaders in the communities in which they live. Our graduates include some of the best and brightest from across the region and the state, including state legislators and government officials. KSU’s continued excellence will depend on students like you, who show an interest in attending the university.

We promise you that if you attend Kentucky State University, our university community will work hard to ensure that you will not be disappointed. Once you are on campus, I believe you will have an enriching experience both inside and outside of the classroom. We will work diligently to provide you with the advising and counseling assistance you may need as you move toward graduation.

As the university continues its move toward becoming more prominent in this region and throughout Kentucky and the nation, we will need your assistance and the help of all of our friends. When you come to KSU, please help us spread the word about the University so that more people will know what a great asset we are to the Commonwealth. Lastly, your feedback on how we can make the university better is equally as important. There is not a more important deed that you can do for this university than to offer your suggestions on how it can improve the delivery of education to students. Your legacy will truly be established.
