( energy.gov) their most recent study says that data centers in 2023 consumed 4.4% of all electricity in the US and are expected to triple that by 2028.
Energy and water usage is tremendous.
(wri.org) World Resources Institute- A single modern AI data center can use as much power as 100,000 homes, many of the larger ones now being built are expected to consume up to 20 times that amount. A mid-sized facility can use up to 300,000 gallons of water a day, while large facilities can consume as much as 5 million gallons daily.
Experts globally like the United Nations, “warn us we have entered into an era of global water bankruptcy.”
( centers.lbl.gov) "It is estimated that less than a third of data center owners and operators in the U.S. measure and track water consumption." So numbers are likely way higher.
(iea.org) Data Center Electricity Consumption Growth- “Electrical data Consumption is up 130% in the US compared to the 2024 level.” Largely due to data centers.
Residential EMF exposure is rising because of the rapid expansion of energy-intense data centers that demand new high-voltage transmission lines, increasingly being built near homes and schools. (David Carpenter in Environmental Research) “The evidence that magnetic fields increase the risk of cancer is neither inconsistent nor inconclusive. Furthermore, adults are also at risk, not just children, and there is strong evidence for cancers in addition to leukemia, particularly brain and breast cancer.”
For constant operation nearly all centers have diesel generators on-site. Diesel generators emit several harmful air pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and particulate matter.
Noise-centers emit low frequency noise. Nearby residents report that the constant noise generated by some data centers affect their well being. Total noise is highly hazardous.
( nidcd.nih.gov ) sounds at or below 70 decibels are generally safe.
(ℒesi.org) Data centers are becoming noisier as developers stack more information technology equipment and servers into smaller spaces. the compounding effect of thousands or tens of thousands of servers in a computing warehouse can raise noise levels to 96 decibels.
Clayton Tucker, who is running for Ag Commissioner of Texas says; cows, sheep and goats lose 30% of their body weight. Chickens lay 50% less eggs. A farmer North of Dallas, claims his cattle have only had stillbirths since a data center went in by him. Kids under 10 are starting to have heart problems. People over 40 years old are having heart attacks at higher rates and early onset dementia in 65 years and overall this within a 5 mile radius of centers.
Land usage: The large amount of acres they consume is a lot to lose for something that has highly negative impacts on communities, especially if it's highly productive farmland. (farmlandinfo.org) "The United States is blessed with a remarkable productive agricultural landscape. Cropland, pastureland, rangeland and woodland support a regionally diverse food and farming system capable of ensuring domestic food security. Agriculture land contributes to state and local economies, supplies lucrative export markets, and bolsters the nation's balance of trade. These exceptional natural
