Arlona Fredrickson shared an experience from a friend who lives approximately one mile from a data center in Aurora, Illinois. After Fredrickson shared the DCA noise ordinance with her friend, her friend became emotional and expressed that having similar protections in place before the data center was built could have made a significant difference. Her friend estimates that she loses approximately 600 hours of sleep annually due to noise from the data center. She previously taught children in her home but had to relocate because the noise made it difficult for the children to learn. Over the years, she and others worked with the data center and the city to address the issue. The data center has since made changes that have improved the situation. Fredrickson noted that newer data centers appear to be incorporating more protections.
