Trained and preferably vaccinated individuals, such as veterinarians, should collect and handle specimens for testing from potentially infected animals. Call the laboratory, a veterinarian, a local public health official or reference Centers of Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) guidelines https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/index.html before risking exposure.
