The Ryanair investment at Prestwick Airport shows how Scottish Enterprise unlocks private investment to deliver ambitious, productivity-enhancing projects through coordinated public sector partnership.

Scottish Enterprise supported Ryanair's £40m expansion at Prestwick with £11.6m of investment, alongside £1.52m for enabling infrastructure. This investment represents a significant boost for Ayrshire and Scotland's aerospace sector. It demonstrates how our mission-led approach is supporting high-value jobs, productivity improvement and the development of globally competitive clusters.

The expansion will create 450 new highly skilled engineering and mechanic roles, including 60 apprenticeships and supports more than 1,200 skilled jobs in Ayrshire.

The support was central to positioning Prestwick as a competitive location within Ryanair's wider maintenance network and securing long term investment in Scotland. Delivered through a strong partnership between the Scottish Government, the UK Government, South Ayrshire Council, Prestwick Airport and Scottish Enterprise, the project will see the construction of a new 11,938 sqm, four bay heavy maintenance hangar, alongside additional component workshops significantly increasing maintenance capability at the site.

This major development will expand Ryanair's Prestwick operation from six to ten maintenance bays, creating Ryanair's largest heavy maintenance hangar and further strengthening Prestwick's position as a key aircraft maintenance and training hub.

It builds on Ryanair's £5m investment in its Prestwick Training Academy, opened in October 2024, which is providing industry leading training and creating a further 500 roles for engineers, mechanics and support staff.
