Grangemouth is becoming an important centre for growing companies, creating jobs, supporting the move to cleaner industries and strengthening the local economy.
Investment in companies such as MiAlgae and Celtic Renewables shows how long-term support from Scottish Enterprise, working with the Scottish and UK Governments, is helping businesses to grow and shift to low-carbon production. Together, these investments are expected to support up to 279 new direct jobs across the Grangemouth industrial cluster and surrounding area. Scottish biotech company MiAlgae, supported by £1.5m of Scottish Government Grangemouth Just Transition Funding, is projected to create up to 130 direct jobs over five years by using whisky by-products to produce sustainable alternatives to fish-based oils, helping protect marine life. The funding, administered by Scottish Enterprise and match funded by the UK Government, is expected to deliver an additional £53m to the Scottish economy.

Meanwhile, £11.5m has been committed to support preconstruction work for a new Celtic Renewables biorefinery, including £6.2m of Grangemouth Just Transition funding. This investment is expected to create up to 149 jobs by 2030 by turning waste from food, drink and agriculture into low-carbon chemicals. Together, these projects highlight how public private partnership in Grangemouth is accelerating commercialisation, attracting investment and supporting a fair transition to a lower-carbon Scottish economy.
