20- Antonious, GF lead scientist on the analyses of soil and plant tissues samples collected from Meade County and completed the research experiment dealing with the quality of vegetables grown in sewage sludge with Mr. Norman Watts, Brandenburg Road, Ekron, KY and Clem Haskins Family Farms samples collected from soil and plants from Dwain & Theresa Brockman Fields, Columbia, KY 42728. Soil and plant tissue samples of onion, sweet potato, potato, and tobacco leaves grown in soil amended with sewage sludge were also collected from KY growers farms for heavy metal analysis.
21- Antonious, GF collaborated with Dr. Michael Lee, Executive Director of KY-WV Alliance for Minority Participation, UK College of Engineering and met with Dr. Rose Shaw, KY-WV National Science Foundation (NSF) LSAMP External Evaluator on April 29, 2009 at Kentucky State University Atwood Conference Room. Dr. Show tour also included the Water Quality Lab and visits with Dr. James Chapman, KSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dr. Tejinder Kochhar, Professor of Biology as well as several KSU undergraduate students. A copy of the External Evaluation Site Visit Report is attached to this Q-report. Antonious has received a Certificate of Excellence for Exemplary Service in Mentoring Students in the Kentucky State University Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, Awarded on July 29, 2009 by Dr. Michael Lee, University of Kentucky Executive Director of KY-WV LSAMP.
Antonious, GF hired (from external funding) and supervised many Research Assistants (RAs) at KSU Water Quality/Environmental Toxicology Research (during the past 10 years): 1-
All RAs and other personnel have been trained by Dr. Antonious on chemical analysis of synthetic and natural pesticides which include preparation of reagents, extraction of pesticides, clean-up and quantification using gas chromatography (GC) and GC mass spectrometric detection (GC/MSD), water quality tests, ammonia and phosphorus determination, heavy metals extraction from soil, plant tissues, and water samples, quantification of plant nutrients, enzyme assays, maintenance of greenhouses plants, standardization and QA/QC procedures. In addition, fifty-eight KSU undergraduate students have been working as laboratory assistants during the past 15 years (2000-2015) at the Water Quality Lab. These students have gained the experience needed in the area of environmental toxicology where such skills are essential for the job market.
1- Antonious, GF member of the Small, Limited Resource, Minority Farmers Planning Committee. The committee meets with stakeholders through the Third-Thursday monthly meetings and through the November Annual Small Limited Resource Farmers Conference where farmers are invited from several KY counties to share their success stories and farm funding opportunities.
2- Antonious, GF participated and conducted research projects with Kentucky sewage sludge current users and helped sewage sludge “Louisville Green” users in Meade County to analyze their soil and vegetables grown in sewage sludge amended soils on their farms in Mr. Norman Watts field,
