Reinstatement and approval for held Faculty Emeritus Designation.
In the spring of 2022, the Tenure and Promotion process was suspended. The action taken by the Interim President was presented to the KSU Board of Regents and approved. This action also impacted how the university recognized or approved recommendations for “Emeritus Status”. Currently, only one retired faculty member was recommended to receive the emeritus designation at Kentucky State University. President Koffi C. Akakpo reactivated the Tenure and Promotion process in the fall of 2024. Thus, the recommendation for emeritus designation was also activated.
James H. Tidwell, PhD was recommended by the Kentucky State University Aquaculture faculty. The faculty unanimously recommended emeritus status for Dr. Tidwell as outlined in the faculty handbook. With 35 years of service at Kentucky State University building a nationally ranked and internationally recognized program, he has a wealth of knowledge about the aquaculture program, the aquaculture industry, and research supporting its development.
The Dean at that time agrees Dr. Tidwell's recommendation satisfies the requirements outlined in the faculty handbook and deserves this honor and recognition.
The approval of the three candidates will receive tenure status and/or promotion. The change in emeritus will have minimal impact on the university's budget. The status does provide access to opportunities in research and when available a workspace. Emeritus faculty are also eligible to teach courses within their designated program.
President Koffi Akakpo and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Michael D. Dailey recommend the approval of the designation of emeritus status as recommended by the School of Aquaculture faculty.
