A Message from the PRESIDENT

Greetings,

Kentucky State University has completed another remarkable academic year. Our reach across the Commonwealth has grown at an exceptional rate, serving students rooted in different beginnings, united in achievement.

A total of 345 degrees were awarded by the university to the Class of 2025 on May 10, 2025.

Our dual credit program has increased significantly from 408 students in the last academic year to 833. This summer marks the second year Kentucky State offers high school students a residential camp where they can earn college credit, expanding access to quality education.

Implementing high-impact practices that empower student success remains a top priority as we continue to advance our programs and enhance our campus.

We are especially appreciative of our Kentucky legislators and community partners for authorizing $5 million for the design of the Kentucky State University Health Sciences Buildings. This investment is key in empowering Kentucky State to train the next generation of healthcare professionals and help address the severe shortage for nurses being experienced throughout the Commonwealth and the nation.

As we approach the 135th Anniversary of the Second Morrill Act of 1890, this six-month report is a reminder of the important work that 1890 land-grant institutions are conducting every day, both in the classroom and beyond. Kentucky State proudly celebrates this important legacy that transformed the educational landscape and expanded resources and opportunities for all.

A significant achievement of our Land Grant Program is the launch of a hay testing lab at the newly opened Cooperative Extension Office in Barren County. This facility helps fill the gap in forage testing access across the Commonwealth, offering an essential service to local farmers.

It has been a year full of exciting growth and inspiring achievements. We thank you for your continued support and advocacy of Kentucky State University. Together, we are building a brighter future for our students, the Commonwealth, and the world.

Warm Regards,

Koffi C. Akakpo, Ph.D. President
