KENTUCKY STATE UNIVERSITY BOARD OF REGENTS
ACTION ITEM 5A(ii)
ACTION ITEM:
Approval of Budget Increase for the Chandler Hall Renovation Project
FACTS:
Chandler Hall, built in 1939, spans 28,000 square feet and houses 115 students.
It has undergone two renovations, the most recent occurring in 1993.
The building suffers from significant deferred site maintenance, outdated systems, and moisture issues, as well as failing or deteriorating architectural components (both interior and exterior).
This project will include:
Upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
Architectural improvements (e.g., low-maintenance flooring, building envelope repairs)
The repurposing of underutilized space, potentially increasing bed capacity
Major construction is scheduled to begin in December 2024, with completion anticipated by November 2025.
BUDGETARY IMPLICATIONS:
The project was previously approved with a $9,970,000 budget during the September 2024 Board meeting.
As design efforts progressed, additional building envelope and HVAC issues were identified, thus increasing the estimated cost by $300,000.
The total projected budget is now $10,270,000.
The additional $300,000 will come from the University's 2022–2024 state bond-funded asset preservation funds, consisting of $260,869.57 in state bond funds and $39,130.43 in University matching funds.
RECOMMENDATION:
President Koffi C. Akakpo recommends that the Board of Regents approve the budget increase for the Chandler Hall Renovation Project.
MOTION:
Approve the budget increase for the Chandler Hall Renovation Project.
