Kentucky State University Athletics Feasibility Study
Introduction
The Athletics Feasibility Study for Kentucky State University is Component Two of the Work Plan performed by The PICTOR Group. The Athletics Feasibility Study was conducted over a three-month period following the Athletics Program Review and SWOT Analysis.
The work was performed by the three PICTOR Group principals who were engaged in the Athletics Program Review and SWOT Analysis: Vice President and Project Leader, Dr. M. Dianne Murphy and Vice Presidents Carolyn Schlie Femovich and Dr. Ingrid Wicker McCree. They were assisted by Angie Allen, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Riley Gallagher, Director of Data Research and Analytics.
Statement of the Project
The purpose of the project was to provide the necessary data-based information, observations and recommendations to assist Kentucky State University in making timely and proactive decisions regarding the positioning and future strategic direction of the athletics program.
Approach and Methodology
The approach to the Feasibility Study was to conduct a comparative analysis of the Kentucky State Athletics program with institutions in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SIAC) and with groups of peer institutions and conferences designated by Kentucky State.
The following key elements were addressed in the Feasibility Study:
Membership and Conference Affiliation
Gender Equity Compliance
Athletics Facilities
Sports Team Travel
Athletics Generated Revenue
For the above elements where data were available, information was gathered primarily from the U.S. Department of Education Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) for the 2022-23 academic year. Other sources were the Carnegie Classification for Institutional Profile; Department of Education College Scorecard for Graduation Rates; and Google Maps for Travel Distance and Time. The data from these sources was supplemented by general information available on websites for the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), or on conference and institutional athletics websites. It should be noted that the EADA data utilized for the Feasibility Study may vary from the IPP data utilized for the Athletics Program Review. This may be due to differing definitions
