It is important for President Akakpo to convey a clear and unified message to the campus community about the significance and contributions of the athletics program. Demonstrating a strong commitment from the President and Board of Regents to enhance financial support for the athletics program is crucial for its continued growth and competitive success.

A successful athletics program can be a tremendous asset for Kentucky State University. A dynamic athletics program can advance Kentucky's State vision and mission. Winning teams can enhance Kentucky State's reputation, extend its outreach, help grow enrollment, increase alumni and donor support and strengthen its stewardship. However, the athletics program must be able to achieve a reasonable degree of competitive success and provide its student-athletes with a positive and meaningful experience.

General Recommendations

Based on the information gathered and insights gained throughout the Athletics Program Review and SWOT, eight general recommendations are outlined below to position the athletics program for future success. Specific objectives, strategies, tactics and metrics will be identified in each of these areas during the strategic visioning, and planning phase of The PICTOR Group's engagement.

1. Develop an Athletics Strategic Plan utilizing the observations and recommendations in this Report.
2. Strengthen leadership and administrative support to effectively manage and support the 14 sports programs and 300+ student-athletes.
3. Prioritize staffing, athletic scholarships, and operating budgets to support programmatic elements and needs of student-athletes and coaches.
4. Upgrade athletics facilities and venues.
5. Develop and implement a unified approach to building relationships, fundraising and stewarding gifts from alumni, parents and friends to increase philanthropic support for the athletics program.
6. Create and implement a comprehensive Revenue Acquisition Plan to include two major components: Fundraising and Sports Marketing.
7. Develop and implement a Gender Equity Plan to address gender equity issues.
8. Enhance student-athlete support services such as mental health, academic enhancement, nutritional support, athletic training and sports performance and strength and conditioning services available to student-athletes to foster overall well-being and enhance performance.
