Chapter IV Conclusions and Recommendations
While Kentucky State’s athletics program demonstrates resilience and gradual improvement in several areas, the program continues to face disparities in funding, staffing, and resources compared to its NCAA Division II and GLVC peers. In general, the SIAC is below Division II and GLVC in these critical areas. Strategic initiatives to enhance financial sustainability, resource allocation, and academic support will be essential for Kentucky State to remain competitive within the SIAC and among Division II institutions. Athletics facilities will need to be improved.
The key focus for Kentucky State Athletics over the next five years revolves around overcoming funding challenges, leveraging alumni and community engagement, prioritizing academic success for student-athletes, and rebuilding and sustaining a competitive athletics program. Kentucky State’s athletics program has an opportunity and potential to reclaim its historical excellence but faces significant challenges in funding, athletics facilities, staffing, and gender equity. Addressing these issues through strategic investment, improved collaboration and enhanced community and alumni engagement will create a sustainable, thriving and winning athletics culture. A unified vision and commitment from Kentucky State University is essential to support these efforts and align the athletics program with the institution’s broader vision and mission.
