Submission of Academic Policies for Consideration

FACTS:

Kentucky State University continues to review policy and procedures to support the mission of the institution. As part of this review, current policies are being revised. KYSU Online/KSU Global submitted policies approximately one year ago. After a year of implementation, the Division of Academic Affairs is proposing changes to the enclosed policies for consideration.

The Online policies, reflect changes financial aid allocations across the eight-week terms included in a fall, spring, summer semester academic year. This change allows students to continue their education pathway with information how the disbursements are allocated for each term. The other Online policies reflect changes in academic suspension, leave of absence, balance forgiveness, broken enrollment, as well as course drop and withdrawal. These changes are also reflected in the KYSU Online Faculty Handbook also enclosed for consideration.

The additional academic items for consideration include, full time faculty requirements for academic programs policy, the 4 + 1 academic program policy, and the overload and adjunct payment policy. As required by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges SACSCOC. Specifically, “the institution employs a sufficient number of full-time faculty members to support the mission and goals of the institution”. The 4 + 1 academic program policy provides an advanced/accelerated bachelor/master’s pathway to a graduate degree.

To qualify for admission consideration, students must:

  • Have completed at least 90 undergraduate credit hours at the time of application.
  • Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or higher if required by the program).
  • Receive approval from the undergraduate advisor, graduate program director, and Office of Academic Affairs prior to enrolling in any dual-counted coursework.

The overload and adjunct compensation policy, addresses changes to ensure the instructional duties associated with credit-bearing courses—whether delivered in person, virtual, hybrid or online—when those duties are performed outside of an individual's regular contractual or scheduled work hours.

Requests for overload or adjunct teaching assignments should be determined at least one month prior to the start of the semester for which the assignment is requested. This advance planning ensures sufficient time for review, approval, and integration into the academic schedule in accordance with institutional guidelines. Payment requests
