Clearance Rates
Courts use "Clearance Rates" as a performance measurement tool. A clearance rate is the measure of the number of cases closed as compared to the number of newly filed cases over a given period of time. It is a measurement of whether the court is keeping up with the pace of newly filed cases or if the court is falling behind and a backlog of cases is developing. A clearance rate of 100% or higher indicates that the court is keeping up with its incoming caseload.
These numbers can be closely monitored by court administrators, which in turn helps the Chief Judge make important decisions about allocation of the circuit court's resources. Clearance rates for 2025 are included on the next two pages.
