SECTION 3: Community Engagement and Public Input
The Planning Process was driven by community engagement and public input. The process included Three (3) Public Workshops, One (1) Open House, and a Community Survey.
The Township launched the Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan Community Survey in November 2023 to help establish priorities for the future development of parks and recreation facilities, programs, and services within Millcreek Township. The survey was administered online available via physical paper-copy during the Community Engagement meetings and the responses were later uploaded. The survey, totaling twenty one (21) possible questions, received 519 responses over the course of the two weeks it was active. Of those responses, 475 respondents (91.5%) indicated that they were residents of Millcreek Township.
Results of the Community Engagement Meetings & Survey
Community Engagement
Of the 105 responses garnered during the in-person community engagement events to attendees' favored parks and places, the majority (29%) indicated Asbury Park, followed by Veterans and Scott parks, 14% and 13% respectively.
This falls in line with responses to the Favorite Ways to Move boards located at the events, which indicated that the majority of the 101 attendees who answered desire walking and hiking trails (16%) and community centers (15%) above all other amenity types. Combined interest in both outdoor and indoor fitness facilities garnered 11% of the responses, while interest in pools, outdoor and indoor combined, was 9%.
Programmatically, attendees indicated that their favorite programs were overwhelmingly in the adult fitness and wellness category, at 26% of the 34 responses. Educational programs and broadly identified interest-based seminars, cooking programs, and adult arts and crafts are represented 9% of the votes each, as did adult sports.
