The fifth area, shown on this page, starts near the east portion of Hilborn Avenue and continues to the intersection of W 8th Street and Peninsula Drive.
Access management should be a long-term goal for Millcreek Township. Access management involves the coordinated planning, regulation and design of access between roadways and land development. It promotes the efficient and safe movement of vehicles by reducing points of conflict - particularly through reducing existing curb cuts.
This area of W 8th Street has a large number of existing curb cuts, which can make conditions confusing for motorists and particularly unsafe for pedestrians and bicyclists. As redevelopment occurs, curb cuts should be re-considered and consolidated to provide fewer access points. Eventually, the need for a center-turn lane could be reduced and space within the public right-of-way could be re-allocated to on-street parking or bike lanes.
This area has the opportunity for further
infill development on both sides of the street
close to the intersection with Peninsula Drive.
Redevelopment opportunities are shown in
greater and closer detail on the following pages.
