Central Section

The concepts on this page represent the central section of W 8th Street, near Colony Plaza. The central section begins at Sommerheim Drive and continues west to Lowell Avenue. The right-of-way for this stretch is approximately 70 feet.

W 8th Street - Central Concept 1

  • Vehicle Travel Lanes: 2 lanes, 11 feet wide on the south lane, 11-13 feet wide on the north lane
  • Center-Turn Lane: 1 lane, 10 feet wide
  • Tree Lawn: 4-5 feet wide on both sides. The south tree lawn buffers the sidewalk, while the north tree lawn does not. Rear-angled parking provides a buffer to the sidewalk on the north side.
  • Sidewalk: 5 feet wide on both sides of the street.
  • Parking: Includes rear-angle back-in on-street parking

W 8th Street - Central Concept 2

  • Sidewalk: 5 feet wide on both sides of the street.
  • Vehicle Travel Lanes: 2 lanes, 11 feet wide each
  • Center-Turn Lane: 1 lane, 10 feet wide
  • Tree Lawn: 6 feet wide on both sides. Both lawns buffer the sidewalk.
  • Parking: Includes parallel on-street parking

Rear-Angle Parking

The north side of the street includes back-in angled on-street parking to serve local businesses. This parking was included to maximize the number of spaces in order to help offset the loss of parking that was encroaching the right-of-way near Colony Plaza.

Preferred Concept: Concept 1

The project team determined that the first concept was preferable. The rear-angle parking design will allow for more spaces to better offset any parking losses.
