heron, a popular year-round species. The Erie Indians lived along the shores of the lake and were early inhabitants of Presque Isle. According to legend, the spirits of Lake Erie caused a great storm and the Great Spirit stretched out their arm to protect the Erie Indians from the storm, resulting in the shape of the Presque Isle peninsula1. The peninsula's shape is unique and the defining feature of the State Park. This shape will feature prominently in future branding and gateway signage.
