B*K would recommend including a wellness center in the facility as an entry level amenity to help off-set the cost of operations. The wellness center should be modest with limited equipment. Cardio equipment may include treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, and recumbent bikes. It will be important in the design to identify a flooring surface that can accommodate the machines but is also easily cleaned. B*K would also recommend in this space a circuit of pin select weight training equipment. Inclusion of a dumbbell rack with the maximum weight of 50 lbs along with limited bench apparatus and potential inclusion of 1 power rack. Finally, in those locations B*K would recommend a designated stretching space that could also be used for functional training. Equipping this space with BOSU balls, medicine balls, bands, etc. will invite a variety of users.
Given the components of the facility B*K would not recommend full-service locker rooms with showers. Rather, B*K would recommend restrooms with changing facilities and minimal lockers. Given the demographics of the area most people that will use the facility, young and old, will come to the facility prepared for the given activity. To supplement this space, it will be important to have day lockers strategically placed outside of the restrooms and in the facility. In addition to separate men's and women's restroom/changing rooms the Township should consider including at least 1 family changing room. Such a space would meet the needs of adults with young children, those with disabilities and others.
