Component Lists w/ Approximate Square Footage Allocation:

This is an initial list of components that could be included in the facility. Square foot allocation will need to be verified by an architect of the Township’s choosing. Final component list will need to be verified by the Township.

The Township has finite resources to dedicate to a project of this nature. With that information in mind it is important to understand that the following information is a recommendation. B*K is not suggesting that the Township must do all of these things at one time. However, if the Township were to make an investment in facilities these are areas where B*K would suggest they focus that investment.

Free Zone:

Lobby / Reception Area; 1,000 square feet.

The lobby should be the living room of the facility; it should include soft seating and technology to include public WIFI which is accessible through the facility. The lobby should house the location of a central control point to access the pay zone of the community center. This space will address some of the social needs of the facility. B*K would recommend equipping this space with vending machines that provide traditional and health options.

• Administration; 1,000 square feet.

The administration wing should become the “hub” of recreation for Millcreek Township. Full-time, non-parks, staff should be in this office suite. In addition to individual offices, there should be cubicle workstations, small break room, a part-time/full-time employee check-in and locker space, and a conference room. This space should be directly accessible from the lobby/reception area.

Lounge; 1,000 square feet.

Most community recreation centers are phasing out dedicated senior space. If a branch library space is included in the facility, this space may not be necessary, although there are no other public senior spaces within Millcreek Township. The space should be outfitted with comfortable furniture and have the ability to serve multiple functions and age groups. This space should be located on one side of the kitchen to provide direct access for seniors, have tables and chairs for youth to do homework and families to gather. As an alternative, this space could be converted into an additional meeting room or group fitness space.

• Restrooms: 850 square feet.

The restrooms should be located adjacent to the large community room.
