• Other major development proposals providing at least 10 dwellings or more are expected to deliver a measurable increase in green infrastructure features on the site post-development. This can be demonstrated through the use of the Urban Greening Factor (UGF) calculator, or a suitably detailed landscaping plan showing pre-and post-development green infrastructure.
  • 0.3 for predominantly non-residential developments;
  • 0.4 for predominantly residential developments; and
  • 0.5 for predominantly residential greenfield developments.
  • A maintenance plan should be secured to demonstrate how the green and blue infrastructure will be successfully retained for 30 years or the life of the development (whichever is most appropriate for the scheme).
  • All landscaping proposals should be made up of a mix of locally native species to match natural habitats and include details on intended planting times. Development which includes landscaping proposals should include at least 60% locally native species; non-native species should be beneficial to pollinators and/or be well-adapted to climate change.
  • Development must include a proportionate number of bat roosting and bird nesting facilities relative to the size and scale of the development. This is as follows:
  • at least one integrated bat roosting or bird nesting facility within each new dwelling house or extension to an existing dwelling house;
  • for multi-storey residential buildings (such as flats), a minimum of two integrated facilities per floor; and
  • for major non-residential buildings, a minimum of eight facilities must be provided per building.
  • Consideration must be given to colony nesting species (such as swifts and sand martins), which require several facilities to be grouped together to ensure appropriate provision.
  • Where integrated facilities are not possible, alternative facilities should be provided within the site.
  • Development should be as permeable to wildlife as possible, increasing connectivity across and beyond the borough’s ecological network. Incorporating features into the built fabric of buildings to support and enhance priority and local Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) species will be supported. Development
