Stockport Local Plan to 2042: Publication version (regulation 19)
Walking, wheeling6, cycling and public transport will be prioritised as the preferred modes of travel, including opportunities presented by expanding the Metrolink/tram-train network. This will make sure that core services and facilities are within easy reach of homes and workspaces, with sustainable travel encouraged to, from and beyond our centres.
Development will follow the Sequential Test and, where necessary, the Exception Test, in accordance with national policy and the Flood Risk and Coastal Change Planning Practice Guidance. Site-specific Flood Risk Assessments will be required for all development in Flood Zones 2 and 3 and for sites at risk from other sources of flooding. Development must incorporate climate change allowances and demonstrate that it will be safe for its lifetime without increasing flood risk elsewhere.
Physical infrastructure will be delivered alongside development to ensure that our communities are connected, we are climate-friendly and our economy can thrive. This will include digital, renewable and low carbon energy, utilities, transport and social infrastructure. The council is committed to bringing Metrolink to the borough and will protect land to enable its delivery. There is an expectation that new development will contribute towards the provision of such infrastructure at a level commensurate with its scale and impact.
