Background:
This year, the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education passed the 2008-2010 Research Challenge Trust Fund and Comprehensive University Excellence Trust Fund Program Guidelines. The guidelines require each university's Board of Regents to designate the acceptance and use of funds delegated to each university.
Recommendation:
That the KSU Board of Regents External Relations and Development Committee recommend that the full board approve the acceptance of Kentucky State University's allocation of $633,000. And that, according to guidelines, 50 percent of the funds be designated for the support of professorships or student scholarships that are directly linked to the research activities of an endowed professorship, and that 50 percent of program funds be designated for the support of student scholarships that are not directly linked to the research activities of an endowed professorship but will be related to academic disciplines contained in the five new economy clusters as stipulated by program guidelines.
