The videos posted on our Youtube account are primarily used to embed videos to the main website. The platform that has been used by the office most notably during major events such as graduation and coronation as well as for KSU marketing videos.
Snapchat is a platform that is used to take video or picture messages that can be shared for a limited time. We’ve found this platform to be most useful during events such as Commencement, concerts, etc. We anticipate that it will become beneficial for visibility during Homecoming. To capitalize on that opportunity, we have submitted geofilters—essentially graphic elements users can use as an overlay on their photos—when they are in a specified area. For us, this will be on campus. As of September 30, we are awaiting approval from Snapchat.
Periscope is a social media platform similar to Youtube in that it hosts live-streaming videos, and similar to Snapchat in that those videos are available for a limited period of time. Our Periscope channel, which features live-broadcasting capabilities, launched in mid-August and is now has approximately 69 followers (a sign of engagement and a following). This is a new platform, and we will continue to monitor the benefits of its use for the University. Other HBCUs are also using this platform.
