DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

The Council on Postsecondary Education’s (CPE) Committee on Equal Opportunities’ (CEO) January quarterly meeting featured the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) scholars. The scholars from the various state institutions were introduced to the committee and afforded time to discuss their research. Kentucky State University employs the largest numbers of SREB scholars in the state, all of which were in attendance.

The Assistant Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion attended the Committee on Equal Opportunities' March quarterly meeting held at the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). The focus of the meeting was the various diversity projects occurring at the state institutions. Three institutions gave presentations that highlighted their institutional Diversity Plan. Kentucky State University is scheduled to present during the October quarterly meeting.

The CEO had a lengthy discussion regarding a proposal to include consideration of the LGBTQ community in its Diversity definition. The committee approved by a 6-5 vote to include “gender identity and gender presentation” in the Diversity definition. The item will go forward to the CPE for consideration.
