Re: Dr. Chi Shen, promotion candidate

I am submitting this memo to you regarding Dr. Chi Shen's application for promotion to the rank of Full Professor. Review of this candidate's dossier was conducted in accordance with University policies and procedures set forth in the Faculty Handbook (Promotion and Tenure2.6.1.1.4). The Unit Tenure and Promotion Committee from the School of Business & computer Science recognized her years of diligent service to the University and her impressive record of teaching effectiveness which they feel qualifies her for promotion. Her overall ratings for effective in the classroom are well above average. Dr. Chi Shen has proven herself to be an enormous asset to the School of Business and Computer Science

For the last ten years, Dr. Chi Shen has taught several courses in computer Science. Her student rating scores and written evaluations have been above average and quite impressive. The overwhelming majority of students have high regard for her although the subject matter is often thought to be too difficult. She is generally regarded as fair and willing to work with Students in need of additional help outside the classroom.

Dr. Chi Shen is one of the few published professors in the School of Business & Computer Science. To her credit, she has had articles accepted for publication in a refereed journal and written many grants which have been successfully funded by external agencies. She has also made presentations at professional conferences. His performance in the area of publication is above average.
