Esteemed Kentucky State University Regents;

Dr. Yolanda M. Powell-Young is the new visionary and transformative leader of the Kentucky State University School of Nursing. With an impeccable reputation for excellence in academic and administrative nursing, she has achieved national recognition as a Nursing Scholar whose accolades include her selection as the 2016 Recipient of the National Black Nurses Association, Inc. Trailblazer Award, 2017 recognition as Best Reviewer for the Research in Nursing and Health Journal, and also 2017 appointment to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Palliative Care and Nursing. She will indeed be a tremendous asset to the School of Nursing and the university overall.

To her new role, she brings a wealth of experiences from a vast array of service in the nursing profession encompassing higher education as well as diverse clinical institutions. From her early days in nursing as a clinician to her recent accomplishments in academic nursing and also nursing administration, Dr. Powell-Young has so much to offer the students, faculty, and staff of the KSU School of Nursing. She is uniquely poised to take the school to the highest levels by capitalizing on the strong foundation already established and launching the programs to even greater heights.

As delineated on her curriculum vita, Dr. Powell has exemplified excellence across the board including her Nursing Licensures, Board Certifications, Academic Appointments, Clinical Appointments, Academic Leadership, Nursing Service, Academic Committees and Councils, Clinical Committees and Councils, Professional Memberships and Boards, as well as numerous successes in Research and Sponsored Programs generating revenue in excess of a million dollars. I submit to you that the cumulative impact of her extensive contributions to the advancement of excellence in higher education research, teaching, and service qualify her for appointment as a tenured Professor in the Kentucky State University School of Nursing.
