Dr. Stephen Graham-Hill, Chair School of Public Administration, Social Work, and Criminal Justice Kentucky State University Frankfort, KY 40601
Dear Dr. Graham-Hill:
The Unit Committee of the School of Public Administration, Social Work, and Criminal Justice consists of Christopher Daniel (Chair), Arthur Hayden, Reginald Thomas, and Jean Smith. The Committee met today and voted 4-0 (four to zero) in favor of granting Stephen Ulrich both tenure and also promotion to the rank of Associate Professor. The Committee reached this decision after reviewing Dr. Ulrich's dossier and considering each of the Faculty Handbook's tenure and promotion requirements.
Dr. Ulrich has completed a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Louisville. His has completed five years of full-time teaching experience here at Kentucky State University (2009-2014). He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at several other institutions, including Spaulding University (on-campus and on-line), Western Kentucky University (on-line), Ashford University (on-line), and Brescia University (on-line).
The Committee’s members were impressed by the quality of Dr. Ulrich’s teaching. His course syllabi have been very thorough, providing students with helpful structure. Formal evaluations of his teaching by faculty peers, administrators, and students have been favorable. More specifically, in three of his classes all students “Strongly Agreed” with the statement “Instructor demonstrates overall effectiveness.” In other classes that submitted evaluations most (or all) students either “Agreed” or “Strongly Agreed” that their instructor, Dr. Ulrich, demonstrated “Overall Effectiveness”.
The Committee reviewed Stephen Ulrich's extraordinary record of service. As community service he has been a consultant to the State of Kentucky's HIV/AIDS Advocacy Committee. As university service Dr. Ulrich has served on both the Faculty Senate and the Institutional Review Board. And, within his academic unit he has revitalized the Social Work Program. As Social Work Coordinator he has obtained re-accreditation for that Program, which had been experiencing difficulties. Also, due largely to his actions the number of Social Work majors has doubled, increasing from 42 to 85.
Additionally, working closely with former faculty member Amanda Sokan (Department of Nursing), Dr. Ulrich developed a social work oriented Master of Gerontology Program. That promising new program
