Prof. David Shabazz, Interim Chair Division of LLP
Dear Prof. Shabazz,
I am more than happy to write a letter of recommendation for Joe Moffett's application for early tenure. I give Dr. Moffett my highest recommendation. He is an excellent and engaging teacher, an accomplished scholar, and he has become a leader in university service at all levels in the mere three years that he has been with us.
Dr. Moffett is a dynamic and engaging teacher. He already possessed a reputation for teaching excellence prior to teaching at KSU. When he was a faculty member at Kentucky Wesleyan College (where he already attained tenure) and at Northern Kentucky University, he received accolades for his teaching skills. He has continued that same enthusiasm at KSU. He has a unique ability to both nurture and challenge students. He has both depth and breadth of expertise, and he does a remarkable job of engaging students. His student evaluations have been excellent at all the universities in which he has taught, including KSU. As one of his colleagues in literature and composition, I can also tell you that students speak of him highly, and my advisees request his classes. His teaching talents alone should ensure his tenure.
Dr. Moffett is an ambitious and accomplished scholar, and his scholarship far exceeds the University requirements for tenure, not to mention for promotion as well. Dr. Moffett has already published two books and has contributed chapters to additional texts, as well as published several journal articles. His work on the 20th Century American long poem is very well regarded in the 20th century literary scholarship. Dr. Moffett is an impressive and prodigious scholar. He has clearly exceeded the requirement of research and scholarship for tenure.
