Dr. Candice Jackson Provost / Vice President for Academic Affairs Kentucky State University Frankfort, KY 40601
Dear Dr. Jackson:
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter in support of Dr. Joe Moffett's application for tenure. He is an excellent instructor, ambitious scholar, tireless servant and dedicated colleague to the Division of Literature, Languages and Philosophy and the University.
As an instructor, Dr. Moffett is able to relate the material to the students. He focuses on student needs and thus creates an environment that breaks down any potential learning barriers. He takes a student-centered approach and is very effective in making learning an engaging exchanged between teacher and student. Based on student evaluations from Kentucky State University and other institutions, he is well respected for his guidance, knowledge and presentation of lessons.
Dr. Moffett has a remarkable record as a scholar. His numerous publications and peer-reviewed articles exceeds the standard for full professor. Dr. Moffett has published 12 academic journal articles, seven articles in books and has a book currently under review by a major academic press. He continues his quest for greater knowledge by currently pursuing a master's degree in Library and Information Science. Dr. Moffett is truly an ambitious and accomplished scholar.
Dr. Moffett has been very active in university service and leadership roles within his three years. I believe this is where he has made great contributions to the University. Dr. Moffett currently serves as the faculty representative for SACSCOC. Dr. Moffett also currently serves as Faculty Senate secretary. He previously served as chair of the Senate's Academic Policies Committee. Within the division, he served as chair of the English Major Committee and is currently chair of the Composition Committee. Dr. Moffett has also served as an active member of the Kentucky Philological Association. He also served as editor of the Kentucky Philological Review. He is an asset to KSU in both his willingness to serve and the skill and diplomacy with which he takes on leadership.
