Persistence Rate of 2009 and 2010 Cohorts

The Data

Graduation rates are calculated using the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) definition. Specifically the definition is as following:

“The proportion of students who enter as first-time, full-time degree-seeking students in a given summer or fall who also earn a credential within 150 percent of the time normally needed to complete the degree. For example: bachelor’s degree graduation rates are calculated over six years, associate’s degrees are calculated over three years.”

In accordance with the CPE definition outlined above, the 2009 cohort consists of 457 first-time, full-time freshmen bachelor degree seeking students. There were 69 students that entered as first-time students who pursued the associate of arts degree. Below you will find the annual persistence rate for students in the 2009 cohort. As of fall 2014, a total of 69 students (13%) from the 2009 cohort have graduated.

The six (6) year period for Kentucky State University's 2009 Cohort ends after the summer 2015 academic semester. Therefore, what is presented in this report is a progress report of the persistence rate of the 2009 cohort as we approach the end of this cohort period. The 2009 cohort consist of 526 students who met the definition as outlined by CPE. Persistence rates may be viewed in Table 7.
