An external organization with numerous years of experiences and resources to do this work for institutions across the country will conduct the faculty productivity study. Kentucky institutions (see Appendix A) like Kentucky State University have found this tool most helpful in the absence of other affordable tools and personnel to conduct these types of analyses. Additionally, this organization maintains such data on a daily basis. In the absence of a full-time assessment and evaluation professional, the Delaware Cost Study (Appendix B) is the ideal solution to provide valuable analysis of data to inform institutional decision-making. This service costs the University $2,000 to join and $1,000 per year of subsequent participation.
The Delaware Cost Study uses an analytical tool to benchmark teaching workloads, instructional costs, and productivity by academic discipline for the institution. Specifically, the results of the study will provide analyses that respond to Kentucky State University's (KSU) ability to determine:
The detailed database will provide answers to these questions and more (see Sample Data Reports in Appendix C). Participation in the Delaware Cost Study affords KSU a clear, concise analyses of data on teaching loads by faculty category, direct cost of instruction and externally funded research and service productivity.
The Delaware Cost Study will also enable KSU to compare its data with national benchmarks arrayed by Carnegie institution type, highest degree offered and undergraduate/graduate program mix within a discipline.
