Technology Status

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Update

The Ellucian proposal and contract for Banner consulting services, process improvement assessments and system hosting has not been signed due to failure to come to an agreement with the contract terms.

Since KSU can no longer wait to make necessary improvements to its business infrastructure and processes, discussions have been held with other vendors for higher education enterprise systems. As a result of the discussions, a high level demonstration was requested of Oracle for their higher education solutions.

Oracle representatives came to KSU and demonstrated to a team of 20 individuals representing the areas of student, faculty, finance, human resources, payroll and information technology. To further demonstrate the functionality of the Oracle student solution, a site visit to Kentucky Community and Technical College System was held.

Current activity:

The KSU team is continuing its discussion and review of the Oracle higher education solutions.

Additional Technology Initiatives

Evaluation and Optimization:

Information Technology Assessments

To get an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of KSU's current network and telephone systems and to get a baseline for future implementations, assessments of the telephone and network (wired and wireless) system will be conducted and completed by June 30, 2015. Once the assessments have been completed, recommendations will be made to ensure that KSU has an efficient, redundant infrastructure that is reliable, secure and meets the needs of Kentucky State University.

Current activity:

I am working to develop a plan for how the assessments will take place. The options are to use internal resources, use a combination of internal and external resources or work with a vendor(s).

Process Improvements

Information Technology is in the early stages of reviewing and prioritizing its processes. Information Technology has identified over 60 processes that need review and mapping.
