BACKGROUND: The Kentucky State University Summer Pre-College Academy is a five-week, academic enrichment, residential program within University College designed as a transition between high school and college. PCA allows first-year students to earn 8-9 credit hours, experience campus life, create effective study habits and become acclimated to college before their first college term begins in the fall.
SUMMARY OF PROGRAMS/ACTIVITIES: This year’s Pre-College Academy was an amazing experience. We had a total of 59 students. A major highlight for this year, was our Workforce Readiness Exposure Lunch and Learn Series. Each Monday of the program we invited special guest who shared with our PCA students about their place of employment, the various types of career paths, and what their employer looks for in new employees. This was a major success as it helped provide insight and clarity for our students to understand major and career paths.
40 PCA students (68%) earned a 2.0 or greater GPA
21 PCA students (36%) earned a 3.0 or greater GPA
4 PCA students earned a 4.0 GPA
