KENTUCKY STATE UNIVERSITY BOARD SELF-EVALUATION RESPONSE SUMMARY September 2019

On September 6 & 7, 2019, the Kentucky State University Board of Regents were asked to complete the Board of Regents Self-Evaluation survey. Participation for the 2019 survey was 100%, where all of the 11 Board members participated, while in 2018 only 9 Board members participated. This report is to serve as a summary of 2019 survey responses and provide a comparison with the September 2018 and September 2019 survey responses.

The Board Self-Evaluation survey consists of 26 multiple choice and 6 essay questions. Multiple-choice questions were presented in the five (5) Likert scales. Questions 1 through 25 were presented in the following scale: Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree, and Uncertain. Question 26 was presented with the following Likert scale: Outstanding, Above Average, Average, Below Average, and Poor.

When analyzing the response, weights were given to each scale, where the highest weight (4) is given to the most positive scale and the least weight (0) is given to the most negative scale. For questions 1 through 25, weights were given as follows: Strongly Agree = 4, Agree = 3, Uncertain = 2, Disagree = 1, and Strongly Disagree = 0. For question 26, weights were given as follows: Outstanding = 4, Above Average = 3, Average = 2, Below Average = 1, and Poor = 0. These weights are used to draw an average scale of each question, as shown in Table 1 below.

Each question is grouped into five (5) major areas: Board Policy-Making Role and Function (questions 1 through 5), Board Organization and Operation (questions 6 through 10), Board Leadership and Accountability (questions 11 through 15), Board Expectations (questions 16 through 20), and Board-President Relations (questions 21 through 25). The average scores of these major area groups of the current responses compared to the 2018 responses are shown below:
