BACKGROUND: Federal and State laws require that students eligible for benefits under the Federal Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, 38 U.S.C. 33013325, or any other education benefits provided under Title 38 of the United States Code shall be entitled to in-state resident status for purposes of tuition charged at state-supported institutions. In addition, Federal Law prevents a college/university from penalizing a student while waiting for the Veterans Administration (VA) to make tuition and fee payments.
SUMMARY OF PROGRAMS/ACTIVITIES: Kentucky State University (KSU) is a military
friendly university which recognizes the service and sacrifice of military connected
students. KSU has a significant number of students who receive military educational
benefits associated with their service or the service of a family member.
Goal 1: Enhance Student Enrollment, Improve Student Life and Engagement, and Improve Student Advising and Career Development and Goal 4-Enhance the Impact of External Relations and Development.
PROGRAM IMPLICATIONS: Failure to comply with the aforementioned Federal and State Laws will create a disincentive to enrollment and retention for military/veteran students and their dependents. In addition, non-compliance could potentially jeopardize KSU’s ability to receive Federal funds associated with students who are eligible for education benefits under Title 38 of the United States Code.
