• The addition of Instructional Counselors in these highly enrolled courses in English and mathematics.
  • The development and work of University College.
  • ■ Increased emphasis on the assessment of the General Education courses.

Following is a series of graphs detailing the \% DFW grades and trends over the past five academic years, Fall 2014-Spring 2019. Each graph presents a comparison of a particular general education category over time as well as a comparison to the overall University undergraduate DFW rate. A trend line is provided to assist in assessing the five-year trend. Most of the enrollment in the general education courses consists of freshmen and sophomores, and many courses, specifically in English and mathematics are taken during a student's first semester on campus.

  • Prior to Fall 2015, these courses included those such as MAT 095, MAT 097, MAT 098, which while credit bearing, could not be used toward a degree. In Fall 2015, along with a CPE initiative, the content of these ‘developmental’ math courses was incorporated into the credit bearing courses of the institution. Because some entering students are not ready to enter these courses, MAT 101, a 3-credit course is needed to prepare for the course required to meet the quantitative reasoning portion of the general education curriculum.
