Approval to Extend Temporary VP-level Appointments
Pursuant to section 2(d) of the Gold Book, the Board of Regents must approve the employment of staff employees at the vice president level and above prior to any offer of employment. However, that section allows the President to conditionally appoint such employees for a ninety-day period. Since July 1, 2023, President Akakpo's cabinet has been filled with employees serving in VP-level appointments on an acting or interim basis. Those employees are:
Dr. Wendy D. Dixie as Acting VP, Finance & Business Affairs
Dr. Michael D. Dailey as Interim Provost and VP of Academic Affairs
Dr. Scott A. Wicker as Interim Vice Provost, Academic Affairs
Dr. Stephanie Mayberry as Interim Vice Provost, Student Affairs
Michael DeCourcy as Acting Chief of Staff and VP, Strategic Initiatives & Development
Zach Atwell as Acting General Counsel and Board Secretary & Liaison
The University is in the process of posting and hiring for these various positions. However, until the positions can be filled on a permanent basis, President Akakpo is requesting that the Board approve the extension of the aforementioned appointments on an interim basis so that those employees may continue performing vital duties. These interim appointments are not expected to extend past December 31, 2023.
The aforementioned employees are being compensated at or below the salaries most recently approved by the Board for their respective positions.
President Akakpo recommends that the Board of Regents approve the extension of the temporary VP-level appointments.
