EXPLANATION/JUSTIFICATION FOR REQUESTED CHANGE(S). ENTER BOTH CURRENT AND PROPOSED DATA FOR EACH CHANGE (use additional pages as necessary):
The prerequisite requirement for MAT 115, College Algebra is a math ACT sub-score of 22 or higher or successful completion of an Intermediate Algebra course. Mathematics department developed MAT 176, Accelerated College Algebra, as a pilot course to accommodate the students who do not meet the benchmarks for MAT 115. The course includes the same topics as MAT 115. The intermediate algebra concept required is covered at the beginning of the semester and is also covered with the topic on an as needed and just-in-time bases. The course has had a higher success rate than MAT 115. We will change the number to MAT 115A (A for Accelerated) to make the course permanent while keeping the regular MAT 115 for students who meet the benchmarks.
