A recent systematic review and meta-analysis of longitudinal studies found that long-term road-traffic noise exposure was associated with a modest increase in incident stroke risk per 10 dB increase. However, evidence differs by noise source and exposure context.
....Taken together, these findings support a cautious interpretation that chronic noise exposure may contribute to stroke risk, but the evidence is less consistent than for major particulate or thermal exposures (Ali, et al., 2026)
“chronic exposure to traffic-related nitrogen oxides, residential proximity to major roadways, and incremental increases in household or community noise levels have each been linked to higher ICH incidence or fatality in multicentre investigations”
