EXPLANATION/JUSTIFICATION FOR REQUESTED CHANGE(S). ENTER BOTH CURRENT AND PROPOSED DATA FOR EACH CHANGE (use additional pages as necessary):
The prerequisite requirement for the current MAT 111, Contemporary Mathematics is a math ACT sub-score of 19 or higher or successful completion of MAT 096, Beginning Algebra. Mathematics department developed MAT 172, Accelerated Contemporary Mathematics, as a pilot course to accommodate the students who do not meet the benchmarks for MAT 111. The course includes the same topics as MAT 111. The beginning algebra concepts required for each topic are covered with the topic on an as-needed/just-in-time basis. The pilot has been successful and we will use the accelerated pedagogy in the new, proposed MAT 111 and remove the prerequisite requirement. Hence we do not need to keep the pilot course, MAT 172.
